On select Tuesdays (Mondays this week), Cameras@Lembeh Resort the first and only dedicated photo & video center in Lembeh Strait with full time on site photo pro will feature Tips and Techniques by Photo Pro Sascha Janson. Sascha will offer up a range of information, you never know what piece of wisdom he will impart.
Sascha Says: Remove The O-Rings on Housing and Strobes When Traveling!
Because the atmospheric pressure changes while flying, and due to the possibility of a higher atmospheric pressure at your dive destination (if you dont live at sea level), it is best to either not to close the camera housing or strobe, or alternately you can remove the o-rings before traveling in order to avoid problems with opening the housing. I typically just put the o-rings inside the housing and strobes, so they dont get damaged and I know where they are.

Always remember to put the o-rings back in place before you enter the water! If you keep the batteries inside your strobe when traveling, just turn one battery the wrong way around, so the strobe will not work. That way youre forced to open it after doing a test shot (which you always do before going on a dive, right?) and realizing that it doesnt work, at which point you should see that theres no o-ring!

Remember that most camera disasters happen at the beginning of a dive trip, so always be extra careful setting up your gear. If you dont have a vacuum system installed on your housing, always do a test in the rinse tank or pool (if theres a leak, freshwater does less damage than saltwater).
