Yet another newbie question: Does ttl mean that you can use external flash when shooting in auto and the flash measures light through the lens? Does it work on pt-023 or do I need to have an ikelite's one? I am still so new to taking photos that I don't think I manage on full manual but need to practise with the new camera (when I manage to make my mind about which camera I should get :)).

Thanks a bunch!

Doesn't this do the same trick http://www.adorama.com/IOMFLCB02.html? As there's a ttl connector in pt-023 shouldn't it connect the camera with any flash that is ttl or does ikelite have their own connection standard? That sounds a bit odd but then again that's competition. Well.. it seems that they really do have different kinds of connectors. Do you have info about for example ikelite connectors etc. Thanks in advance. I'm still trying to search for info on connectors.

Mike Dive in Germany manufacture an Oly-TTL converter that works with the PT-23 housing and Sea & Sea and Inon strobes. The converter includes the cable that fits into the hot shoe on the camera and attaches to the inside of the wet connector on the housing.

I purchased one 4 months ago and it works brilliantly. Perfect exposure every time.

The FL-CB02 may connect to the (red) PT-23 bulkhead connector on the inside of the housing, the problem is that the FL-CB02 connector may be in the way when installing the camera into the housing ( the space is very tight). The other problem is that on the outside end of the (red) PT-23 you are still stuck with the Olympus connector.

For my PT-23 setup, I had a machine shop enlarge and tap a 1/2-20 hole on the PT-23 connector hole. This way I was able to install a standard Ikelite metal bulkhead connector. Just need to buy a standard hotshoe connector/cable ($15) to attach to the ikelite connector, I don't use TTL so I only used two wires to fire the flash.

By changing to the Ikelite system I can now make use of my older ikelite substrobes without any of this "preflash" problems.

Manual mode is the way to go with digital cameras due to the instant feedback, TTL was the tool for film.

Or....just get an Ikelite housing, because they use their standard TTL connector already. The money you will save by getting a PT-23 you will lose when you go TTL.

This just works in my case because I don't use TTL , I have some Ikelite connectors already and I need the PT-23 because I what to try out the Athena dome port that is made for the PT-23 and not the Ikelite.

Ian, my german is poor. :confused6 So, which Oly-TTL converter did you buy? Was it the OLY-TTL-C Konverter? Can the converter be used with two strobes? What is your camera setup? So many newbie questions, so little time.

Thanks,
Vince

Vince,
I purchased an "OLY-TTL-C3 Konverter mit mono" attached to an Inon Z220. I only use a single strobe, but there is a Duo Konverter available.

I set the camera (Oly 8080) to all manual (Shutter 100th or 125th - Aperture F6) and the strobe does the rest.

Hope this helps

Ian

Thanks, Ian

I've sent an email to mike-dive requesting info, but no response yet.

So, of course I have another question. Can the dual converter be used with one strobe or must ther be to strobes?

Also, why did you choose the Inon Z220 vs others?

Thanks for any answer,
Vince

I e-mailed Mike last week on another matter, and got a response within 24 hours.

I'm not sure if the Duo converter can be used with a single strobe.

I chose the Inon Z220 as it was recommended by a colleague. It is very compact compared with other stobes and very versatile. I purchased it from www.uwdigitalcamera.com in Japan via the internet.
