We're heading down to Cozumel on the 23rd with our Sony DSC-W1 and a new housing that I found on etronics.com. I was wondering if anyone has used this digital camera for underwater photography in conjunction with the MPK-WA housing. This will be our first time with a digi camera under water, and I'm hoping the flash will be sufficient. I know that the bigger, better setups take superior underwater images, but maybe this little combo will do okay - ?

I have a similar Sony setup, & have found that as long as you get very close to the subject, it takes very nice shots. In bright, middle of the day, 30 to 40 ft deep settings, I turn the flash off & let the camera auto expose/focus, & wide angle shots come out terrific. Just remember to patially depress the shutter button a moment before each shot, to allow the electronics to do their thing. I would also highly advise you to really study the manual, as you can manually adjust for different conditions (eg. you can increase the flash level & saturation). This is a great setup to get started in U/W photography, & will definitely give you room to grow as you get more & more into it. Your next step if you haven't done so already, is to get a photolab program for your PC to enhance (color correction, crop, etc). Have fun, & make sure you post some pic's w/ your Coz trip report!

Thanks MN Lakeman, That's pretty encouraging. I will definately look into that photolab program. Any recommendations?
