Can anyone point me to a laser pointer that is really useful during daylight? I had a green laser that was amazing at night but, in sunlit water, was useless at distances over 5' or so. Thanks!

You can absolutely see the 750mW laser linked below on the water in daylight. Visibility obviously depends on how sunny and how far, but on a reasonably bright day in Florida I can see mine on lake water at least 20+ yards away.

Is it waterproof enough for diving?

Is a "truly useful laser pointer" anything like "jumbo shrimp"?
In Revillagigedo, a DM had a laser that would get the jacks excited, like cats. That in turn would get the sharks excited, and they would move closer to see what the excitement is about.

On another trip, I brought a laser hoping for similar results. Some fish chased it but other fish ignored it. The pargos were freaked out by it and took off like scalded cats when i shone it at them. Different frequency I guess.

I doubt it is waterproof to any depth, if at all.

Why is that? As a pilot, I know being blinded by a laser, particularly at a critical phase of flight, could lead to a catastrophe. I don't understand the comparison to using one as a pointer underwater?

How about unnatural and messes with things and thinking people don't like it
Think like a fishes eyeball or a frogs or both eyeballs or both of them together

Which also brings to mind the title of this thread

I would tend to view someone waving a 750 mW green laser around underwater like a scuba version of someone waving a gun around in public. Not lethal, yes, but still dangerous, and irresponsible.

Being blinded (or "just" suffering less severe eye damage) by someone close by waving a class IV laser around would probably constitute a catastrophe for the victim.
