The last part of my dive journal and links to photos from my recent Truk Lagoon dive trip are posted on my blog. Dives in this segment include the San Francisco Maru at 180' and the grand Rio de Janeiro Maru!

great set of reports....

...with hindsight, would you have done longer in Palau and less in Truk or exactly as you did it (i.e. which did you think better)?

I just went to Truk this trip. No $$ for Palau. I really liked Palau and would go back there again over Truk. I think two trips to Truk is enough, as I am more into the critters.
Airfare and all is pretty pricey though.

I'm headed to Truk in March, staying at Blue Lagoon Hotel. Are 8 days on the island going to be tough? Do not plan on going to 180ft so I was wondering if there is enough for me to see at 130ft and above?

your pics were great. thanks

The hotel is very nice and the dive op is ok. People from our group went there and had a good time. I prefer a liveaboard and comparing costs for 8 days, I'd be on the Odyssey, you should see if they have an opening for 1 or 2 people.

While the hotel is fine, the dinning room is so slow that it's like watching paint dry, or grass grow, or well, you get the idea. 2 hours to get a burger!

Bring everything you want with you, lots of snacks. There's a only very small store. booze is cheap there though. Laundry is available and cheap at the hotel. internet via slow modem is there and sort of works.

March should be an ideal time of year to go! Have fun.

A liveaboard would be the way to go, I agree, but I do't want to pay the extra single charge, usually twice the cost, and I can't share a cabin.

If the food service is that bad, that slow, how does anyone get breakfast before a dive?

Can you buy snacks on Guam?

I don't know. Bring cereal and buy some milk/fruit. There's refers in the rooms. I've done this lots of times to save $$. Granola bars are great too.

Guam has Costco. it's all part of the USA. Buy what you want there.

I'm paying for breakfast so they better be able to feed the divers before they dive. That seems simple enough? I can deal with the other meals being slow but I think these people should be able to move a bit in the morning so we can eat and dive? Did you hear divers could not get fed in enough time to dive?

I only have a lay-over in Guam so whatever I can pick up at the airport will have to do me.

You've been very helpful
