hey everybody

does anyone have any knowledge of what kind of operation the truk stop hotel/diving is like and are they still in business?
trying to get rates and dive packages from them via email for the past couple of days now to no avail.
seems they are not responding.
are they still in operation?
has anyone been there as of late?
their posted rates on their website appears to be several years old.looks like they have not updated in a while.

any info greatly appreciated

thanx

I have no info on them but you might want to check out Blue Lagoon Hotel and Dive Op on Truk. They are a land based hotel on Truk. Can't tell you too much about them either. I'm going there in March.

I dived with them back in 2003. They were fine - clean basic rooms, friendly staff, well set up dive centre, good guides, allowed me to do the sort of dives I wanted to do. I was the only diver there on a few days - but thats a good thing when you want to poke around inside wreaks.

I dont think theres a difference between blue lagoon or truk stop in terms of accomodation, however the 2-dive limit at blue lagoon pilot fish mentioned in the other active truk tread would be a deal-killer if it is true.

Haven't heard anything about Truk Stop since 2004.

I expect that email services on chuck operate on 'island time', and I seem to remember a few days delay in getting a reply. Call them and find out what they are up to.

Cheers,
Rohan.

Double post..

Truk Stop is still in business. Some dive friends stayed there this spring while we stayed at Blue Lagoon. Their website was not up to date and I did I also did not get a reply to my email.

thanx for your replies guys weve emailed them 4 times in the last 3 days now still no reply.i find that a little supect. if thats any indication of how they run their operation........well could be questionable

I hear they will do a 3rd dive if they can get enough peolpe. Have no way of confirming that now. Will ask my agent to check it out.

Hey guys you might want to check the other thread on truk as i think alot of things where covered there, I have some info that may help, i was there in oct-nov i didnt stay at truk stop, did a day at blue lagoon and liveaboard thorfinn, i met a group of other instructors/dive store owners doing a famil in chuuk and stayed at all places except odysea.
Re: truk stop, clean and basic, actually they said they prefered here to blue lagoon, its run by a irish couple who are very nice, but a little busy as they do almost everything there themselfs, running hotel and dives. The island power supply is from a deisel generator and is turned off at night, but often goes down for days, the hotels have there own gens but often brake down too, this was the case with truk stop the irish guy was trying to fix it when famil group was there.
This may explain there slow response times, however i have seen there job advertised on the padi website, so they may have gone, which is a shame as he was appaerntly great at breifings and tried to get out with everydive.
Also they did do 3 dives a day with the famil group but there was 6 of them, when i was looking at going there they would not gaurentee me a 3rd dive as i was there alone. It would have been 2 morning dives then the rest of the day to kill and trust me there is NOTHING to do on this island except dive! This was my primary reason for going on a liveaboard. Its such a shame that there is a almost complete lack of infastructure here as the diving here is easily some of the best in the world and has such amazing potential but the goverment is just making it harder and harder for people to go in there and start a buisness, rant over.

We only dove one day with Blue Lagoon before getting on the Odyssey. We did two dives which was fine with us.
