As most of you within "Canon Corner" know, I got my A620 a few weeks ago. But I've encountered a problem...

It has burned up two SD cards...both by the same manufacturer: pq1 They were both 1 GB 150x "hi speed" cards.

Have any of you had similar issues?

So here's what happens: I'll be taking pictures, etc. Then the camera will say, "Memory Card Error" and be unable to save any more pictures. So I tried formatting the SD card...to no avail. I get the same error.

When it happened the first time, I just figured it was a bad card. So I used a different brand/size card, and it worked fine. Then I got a replacement of the 1 GB card...same problem. It burned the card again. So yesterday, I used my 2 GB card. No problems yet...

I haven't called Canon yet... I wonder if this is a camera issue, or a specific brand of SC card issue...or something else completely.

I've been worrying that this will happen mid-dive and I'll lose all of the pictures from the day...but so far, that hasn't happened.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

Lowell

Woah!!
Now that really sucks husky..

The manufacturers name is pq1?? I've never heard of them before..
Honestly though have never heard of the A620 "eating cards" like this before.

Personally I think it's a bad card and or an inferior brand of memory card.
What are the results when you used the 32MB SD card that was supplied with the camera??

I suggest that you go to www.newegg.com and search for your pqi sd card.
You will see alot of people having issue with that manufacturer.

I have the Corsair 2GB 150X without any problems with my Canon S80.

I believe that there is a special software that you must use to format the Pqi.

check pqi website for more information.

PQI is a low rent card maker. Cheap, and sometimes people have no issues with them, but I wouldn't trust the pictures important enough for me to snap to one of their cards.

Repeat the mantra: SanDisk, Lexar, Kinston, Crucial... SanDisk, Lexar, Kinston, Crucial...

Alright. I practiced this afternoon..

I think I learned my lesson. Thankfully, I didn't lose any great pictures. I e-mailed Canon, and their response was similar...since it seems to be only PQI cards, it is a manufacturer issue. Use a different brand.

I e-mailed PQI. No response yet...although to be fair, it was a holiday weekend.

I'll be getting a new card, and it won't be a PQI.

Thanks.

Consider yourself double-blessed! Most people have to lost some irreplaceable photos before they get these fun little life lessons. :D

(I've lost shots to a bad card myself. Actually, I've lost shots to a bad card reader, too. THAT sucked. Now, when the price difference is relatively small, I go for the name brand with the good rep unless I truly have no other option.)
