Tropic Dancer Captain’s Report: Jan 7 – 15, 2012
Air/Water Temp: 88/84F
Visibility: 70+ ft
Topside: E Winds
Seas: Calm

Crew: Captain Ike, 2nd Captain Andrew, Instructors Ben, Melissa and Jason, Chef Mani and Stewardess Len

Guests onboard: Michael, Candyss, Tjasa, Rados, Martin, Matt and Sandy

This week, Matt was accused of repeating a popular line here on the Tropic Dancer - “That was the best dive yet”! Matt was called out on the topic Wednesday afternoon after our New Drop Off dive. He continued to describe the dive as “Crystal clear and serene”. “A beautiful mixture of various sea life, like oil and vinegar trying to fuse together”. Michael surfaced and concurred with Matt’s narrative and nor could anyone else deny the serenity of this dive either.

As I mentioned in the previous Captain’s Log, it’s around this time of the year when you can find unique behaviors by our local marine life. It’s mating season for many this time of the year. As Rados pointed out on our Blue Corner dive, our local groups of Napoleon Wrasse are covered in heavy scratches and bite marks. Their wounds and aggressive behavior towards one another are all a part of their mating rituals.

Sandy celebrated her birthday on board this past Thursday, and celebration was certainly in order for both the occasion as well as her milestone. Both she and Matt are PADI’s newest members to the Nitrox club. It seemed as though everyday called for a celebration. After each and every dive, it became a habit for us all to say, “That was my favorite dive yet”. Without any doubt, each and every dive can become your favorite. I always say that each dive site has its own unique quality to it. Whether it’s manta rays, pristine coral gardens, or the bruised and battered napoleon wrasse, you can find exactly what you’re looking for here in Palau.
