Well went out on Sunday Nov. 27 with Lynnhaven Dive Center on the Miss Lauren. Pretty cool morning well it was 35 degrees at 7am so cold probably says it better. Had a small # of divers 7 I think , but they all seemed to be solid divers , with me being the least experienced of the group. Seas were 2-3ft leaving Rudee but really not that bad. 27 miles later we were there anchored on the Luckenbach. Most everyone was diving doubles & either training Deco or doing Deco & since we were an odd number I got buddied with 2 divers that were just there for a fun dive. Everyone on board was diving dry & since I was in a 6.5 semi-dry I decided to put on my 2mil shorty I brought just in case & it worked out great. I never really got cold.
1st dive went great except for on hang bar 1 from our group had a air leak from his 2nd & returned to boat, but the other diver & I went down swam around following wreak line someone had put down. It was a major debris field with lots of Spadefish all over including a large school of them that hoovered over wreck. After following line to end & back to anchor the 3rd diver from our group showed up & we just finished dive swimming around til we were close to NDL then back to hang bar for safety stop & to boat for surface interval. Ended up with water temp of 56 degrees with max depth of 92fsw & 39 minutes.Vis was probably in the 15-20ft range.
After an hour SI we were back in. Since I was 1st ready I went in before rest of group was set, but I figured floating on hang bar was better than sitting on a deck of a pitching boat as seas seemed to be picking up. When the other 2 divers got to bar we decended with no problems. Still lots of areas to check out as this is a large site & Im sure we didnt cover 1/2 of it. Still had that school of Spade swiming around & as always before you know it it was time to ascend & do safety stop. Only went to 87fsw & temp was 57 degrees & again for 39 min. even tho 5 of those were me hanging on bar before start of dive.
This was the deepest Ive been off the Virginia coast, but it was a great time with some great divers & am looking forward to doing it again real soon.
