You totally made my week with your trip report! I cannot wait to go in August, I think we are going to love it. I really want to do that shark dive and I know what you mean about just being in awe. I also don't usually like eels but we saw a ton of them in Mexico, several were out of their hiding spots and it was amazing to watch them swim. One was a huge green moray and it was trying to catch a splendid toadfish (it was succesful) I was afraid to get close but I got some great shots.

I am totally psyched to go! One thing you didn't mention was the bugs and I figure summer is probably worse. :butterfly Did you have any experiences with that? I've heard some horror stories and have been told to slather on certain types of oil, take garlic pills... Did you get any immunization shots before you went?

Thanks again! :jump013:

oh the bugs......
well they were a problem but it didnt ruin our week. I didnt get any shots or anything like that but I should have because I didnt really any better. We used Avon Skin So Soft and for the most part it worked, but I had quite a few bites on me. It was my fault though because I put the stuff on a couple times a day and think I'm fine but I should have put more on
We had to stay another day because it snowed here at home and we ran out of skin so soft so we bought cactus juice from the snack stand by the dive shop and I think that worked alot better.

sorry...someone asked about what we did out of the water and I completely left that out....

Well to be honest, we didnt do much of anything
In between dives we hung out on the little beach on the key, I hung out with the guys from the dive shop (my dad had to get a little used to that haha) or I went over to see the dolphins

During the week though I had offers to take me into West End on Friday night because they told me thats where everyone goes. I decided to go with Nico but at dinner Friday night my dad wasnt so keen on the idea. We went back and forth but I knew he wasnt going to budge. I really wanted to go because I love going to different places and meeting new people but I could understand my dads point of view cause this was our first time on the island.

We walked down the steps and there was Nico waiting. He could tell by my face I couldnt go so he asked my dad if he wanted to come with us, so compromised and we were on our way to West End

I would describe West End as the South Street of Philadelphia only with the ocean to the right and a sandy road. It has such a funky, cool feeling to it. I loved it. It was late by the time we got there but there still were some shops and restaurants open, but mostly the bars. We headed to Fosters. It was so cool. It was out on a dock, there was a bar area, then a dance area then an area with tables and chairs and chair hammock things that you could look at the ocean and the stars (I was obsessed with the stars every night) then there was an upstairs with another bar.

My dad just had one beer then hung out outside. I stayed inside with Nico and danced and saw people from Anthony's. It was fun to hang out with the guys outside of diving. There was a good mixture of tourists and locals and it was cool to see everyone just have a good time together. My dad stayed outside he said the music was too loud for him haha

But it was a very good last night and I think next time I would like to stay in West End.

We also heard that the canopy tour was awesome, but I didnt want to miss a dive. So if by the end of the week, your dived out, from what I heard, I would do the canopy tour.
