Amazing trip report, Bonnie!! My husband and I are thinking about a trip to Socorro either late Jan or late April. The possibility of seeing humpacks is pushing us towards the Jan date....didn't realize there was a chance April as well? Is this a normal annual occurance?

Great photos!

Thanks,
jamie

I've been there in December, January 2x, March, April 2x and May 2x and have seen the most whales in April. That is considering the total number of whale groups we saw, the underwater sightings, topside sightings, and the quality of the encounters. We saw no whales in January (other trips did), several in March, and only tails at the surface in May. During March and April you'll always see them at the surface and can hear the whale song underwater on many of the dives. We hit the jackpot on this most recent trip, so I booked the boat for next April at the same time. We have several spots left if you're interested.

Of course Mother Ocean may change her mind any time. We always have seen the giant Pacific mantas, dolphins, and sharks on every trip.

When ever you can go, I highly recommend it. Hopefully you'll get lucky and see some whales too!

Bonnie

P.S. I've been blogging about whales this week.
