SinoScuba is proud to announce today the first
exploratory dive trip to Mongolia's Lake Khovsgol,
Asia's second largest freshwater lake. This is truly a
once in a lifetime opportunity to experience virgin
diving and to be part of potential new discoveries
underwater.
We are pleased to partner with Boojum Expeditions to
present this unique dive adventure. Containing two
percent of the world's freshwater, the lake is a
Mongolian national park, located just 40 kilometers
south of the Russian border in northern central
Mongolia. Its crystal-clear waters are home to species
of fish, some endemic to the lake, that include the
taimen, a salmon-like fish that can grow up to two
meters, and the lenok, a member of the trout family
that reaches up to 70 centimeters.
The lake is also surrounded by spectacular mountains,
and superb opportunities for other activities
including hiking, horseback riding, and interaction
with the Tsaatan people, a minority group of reindeer
herders who use the Khovsgol region as a summer
pasture.
Both the lake's protection as a national park and
Mongolian tradition that excludes most fish from the
local diet has preserved the lake in a pristine state.
We can expect superb visibility and curiosity from the
fish species that have never seen divers before.
The dates for the trip are August 20-31, 2005. Here is
the itinerary (subject to change):
