Hi guys,

Just wanted to throw out a question for all the tmx ccr divers out there.

How many hours did you have on your unit before starting the tmx course? I know different agencies have different standards but I hear some instructors look for a minimum of 100 hours before training.

Also, what unit and what agency did you do your training with? Any thoughts/comments on the different agencies? Thanks!

As far as CMAS (the World Underwater Federation) is concerned, Candidates must show proof of 150 logged dives as a CMAS 3-star Diver (Divemaster or equivalent) and CMAS Advanced Nitrox Diver (level 2 or equivalent) qualification from a recognized diver training agency, plus logged proof 20 dives as an Advanced or Extended Range Nitrox Diver to take the Normoxic Trimix Program. After certification and with a minimum of 20 logged Normoxic Trimix dives (a minimum of two within the last month) they can take the Advanced Trimix program (100 M maximum depth).

I was writing a Heliox program for CMAS, but this isn't completed. I'm unsure if there is enough of a market to make this a reality; especially with people still having some misunderstandings about Heliox. Time will tell...

I should add that this can be a combination of open/closed circuit. If you want to use a CCR, you will require proof of CCR certification and experience. It's up to the Instructor how much CCR time you would require. Obviously s/he must feel confident in your abilities. I request a minimum of 50 hours logged on CCR, but as long as the other requirements have been met, you're good to go on training. The first dive is a shake-out dive at 30 M, so your abilities will become clear at this point.
