Well this weekend I finished what I called the triathalon of scuba education. I finished my AOW while overlapping my Rescue coursework, and then following up with the Nitrox class. The rescue was an awsome class... challanging, useful and fun.

I'll tell you about the rescue class; I notice a lot of people have questions about that one. The pool work was fun and we learned all the skills independently. My biggest challange was getting the 195# dude out of the water (I'm just over half that) I was quite concerned about giving him a bad cool deck scapping on his belly... I bangged up my knees pretty good but we all survived.:D

We had one of those "senarios"... you know... "go save the dead diver!" Well... what do you know I'm quite the delegator (especially when it comes to lifting out of the water). Rescue breathing/towing not a problem at all (I'm a runner with fairly good cardio) though I do need to work on finning to get myself "up and over" more.

At the lake we combined all the skills into 4 different senarios... we worked as a nice team and I really liked the people in my group. My absolute favorite part of the class... being "panicked diver". What a blast! Arms flailing, sinking, grabbing... ohhh I can reach your regulator! he he he.

After the rescue senarios were over we even had time for a short dive in the lake, though there was not much to see.

We had lunch, then started our Nitrox class. Bad timing for me to be doing math, but it all turned out ok.

Soooo... now on to DMC. yeah me!

Congatulations.

Rescue was my most challenging cert to date. I was a lifegaurd 7 years before i took my rescue class so it helped with getting them out of the water and the panicked diver scenario. I am 6'2" 235 lbs. I love being the panicked diver. Although one of the smaller DM's was harder to get out of the water than I was. He was more practiced and meaner.

i wouldnt call it meaner (maybe he was), but the rescue skills and scenarios have little meaning and value if they are not reasonably real done (ofcourse we cant drown half the class all the time and overweight divers massive and then turn their air off to get real panic :)). but you might agree that it is useless to have the panicking diver splashing a bit water and wisper help, help.
