effectively yes. but they are a whole family of different fish; some are almost always called trevalley, others jacks and some seem to get called both.

Actually it's spelt "Trevally" :

Axua, trevallies are the same things as jacks. Family Carangidae. Even some of the genera are synonymous.

There are lot's of versions. In Thailand the most common seem to be:
Blue fin trevally.
Yellow stripe trevally,
Big eye trevally.

There's probably more but these are the ones in my logbook!
