I have heard many people say that they take their regs. as carry on. Does this just mean the second stage, or 1st and 2nd, or 1st, 2nd, and hoses. I haven't traveled with them yet.....but I think I will in the very near future.

Thanks!

All of it.

We travel with our regs (1st stage, primary, alternate, all hoses and gauges) set up in one carry on. Two sets rolled neatly in a padded bag. They fit nicely under the seat in front with still plenty of room for passports, tickets, books, dive computers, etc. in the bag.

Some of our friends roll them up and then pad them with wetsuits, BC, clothes, etc and then just check them.

I just flew with mine this week. I put my regs (assembled in the reg bag) and my computer in my regular carry on bag. I put my other gear in a checked bag with the remainder of my clothes. Next trip I may put them in my rolling pc bag, haven't decided yet.

Just a thought from someone who deals with travel gear every weekend. Take all of your own gear or rent all of your gear. I spend half an hour every morning trying to make peoples reg fit the rest of the rental gear. What a PITA!

Forgot to mention that your bag can expect extra scrutiny from the TSA crowd. I've only gotten through one time without a hand check and that was in Houston where the guy operating the machine was a diver. He gave me a thumbs up.

The first time we traveled with our regs in carry-on, our bag was searched. We haven't been searched since, and it's been 3 years. Perhaps TSA is getting savvy to dive gear.
