I have read some of the threads regarding traveling with canister lights but some of these threads are a little old and I thought that I would ask for some more recent experience.
My light is an mb-sub and the canister is factory-sealed and does not open (at least I think since the manual does refer to opening the canister). I will be traveling to South East Asia in November with stops in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. What has your recent experience been with traveling with a canister light to these countries? Is it best to put the canister part in the checked luggage rather than having the complete system in the carry-on? Is the risk of having to leave the light behind at some airport too great to be worth it?

Thanks for any input

I think your concern is the Lithium battery and the rules concerning how Lithium batteries must be transported. I would suggest you contact Michael and ask what the total amount of Li is in the battery and also check the TSA regulations. Bring both the TSA and Michaels replies with you in print, just in case.

Pls. Post what you find.

Actually I was not thinking about the amount of lithium in the battery pack but rather that the canister may look suspicious and it cannot be opened to check the contents. But the total lithium content is a good point. I will check into this as well..

Hi,

the ELC (Eqivalent Lithium Content) in the battery pack of our Cave canister is approx. 8 grams (=100Wh).
The maximum for transportation in airplane is 25 gramms (=300Wh)

Just a WAG, but if your canister is made from delrin or similar, the x-ray machine may be able to scan through it? It might also help if you also carry some printed material - catalog or similar with pictures - explaining what the light is.
