My husband and I want to go on a dive trip, but we will traveling with our 11 month old baby. We prefer to travel in non-Western cultures and warm-water diving. Any recommendations for us? Where can we go with our baby (reliable babysitting while we dive) that meets our travel desires? Thanks!

Hi Jessrav18

My wife and I are pondering a similar thing. I like the idea of the Maldives. The last time I dived there there were two dives a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with the boat returning in between the two dives. Our plan, at present, is one dives in the morning, one in the afternoon. That way we both get to dive and do not need to worry about 'reliable' babysitters. The other bonus of the Maldives is most islands offer unlimited diving on the house reef, so we can go "one in, one out" all day long. Obviously, if you and your partner want to dive together then this plan is no good to for you.

If you want to dive in Egypt, we'll babysit for you one day and you can babysit the next day ;)

Best wishes,
Sean

In all asian countries like Thailand, Phils, Indonesia, Malaysia you would find reliable babysitters who would be happy to take care of your toddler for a few dollars.

The asian culture really love kids. You would never be alone traveling with a baby, plenty of people to help you.

I would be more perplex about Maldives as there are no villagers in the resort islands but working people, while typically babysitters would be women from the village. Hence you would need to split dives, whereas in say Phils, you could happily go diving together without any probs.

Also I could hardly say that the resorts in the Maldives, secluded from any village, are "non western-culture", more of a non culture at all to me, or plain "money culture"... :D

I agree with Luko.
I know Malaysia best so the peninsula would be my recomendation. Tioman would, I think, be a good bet.
Malaysia has first class medical facilities always an important consideration with a baby.
Nearly everyone speaks excellent English, so one less problem.
Most dive sites are only a few minutes from the beach so 1 tank boat dives.

Worth a look.
