I'm going to Bali in about a month for a couple weeks of vacation and some diving. I prefer to dive with a pony bottle, but all my previous international dive trips have been a single 'hop' from the US (a direct flight). This time I'll be doing the LAX-->HKG-->DPS circuit.

The pony is 19 cuft, valve off, and fits into my luggage, should I expect any trouble on the HKG-->DPS (and return) legs? I'm flying Cathay (no surprise there since I'm going through HKG) if that makes any difference.

Thanks!!

Hi JohnN,I'm not sure about Hong Kong, but I've had no problem bringing both tiny smb Buddy tanks or CCR tanks into Denpasar with stopovers in Singapore or Kuala.I actually keep the valves on but not tight. I also flick in a printed explanation of what it is and stating that they are not pressurised.Never had anyone claim import duty in Indonesia as the custom officers seem more busy looking for alcohol.

Of course, you also have the option of renting a pony from a reputable dive center.
