In properly fitted BP and harness, you should be able to get out of your gear on the surface with no problem. The solid webbing is extremely comforable. Just my 2 cents, try not to get something with quick releases and plastic buckles. It's just something else to break...and they do break, right when you need them most. For general stuff, the SS backplace works best. There's less weight to put in your belt, and in the event that you need to ditch, you will still have some stability with the SS plate. The AL plate works great if your flying; it makes for a nice LIGHT setup. Hope this helps you out!
