A FOREIGN tourist has died on a dive boat off the north Queensland coast.
A rescue helicopter was called to the commercial dive boat at Saxon Reef, about 50km northeast of Cairns, about 11.30am (AEST) following reports the man was unconscious and not breathing.
EMQ Rescue Helicopter Cairns base manager Paul Tongue said crew members tried to resuscitate the man, believed to be aged in his 50s.
A doctor and paramedic were then winched onto the vessel but were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's body has been airlifted to Cairns.
Mr Tongue said the cause of the man's death was not known. Police and the coroner will investigate.
