travelling to fiji soon . On pacific airlines(PA) they have a rediculous carry on max of 15lbs for carry on . i have two rigs one for uw(sd700is) light but some what limited in functions , and one for topside{d70) heavy but a joy to use. i have just as much fun uw as i do topside. the problem is that we are only going for a week and end up taking 4 planes to make the trip. so our carry on is dedicated for must have items , ie wet suit , uw camera and strobe , and reg and swim suits thats 15bs. i know that PA allows 1 personal item ie camera case (normally mine is 22lbs loaded pelicaan 1500 case) i wont be bringing it as it heavy and it could be mistaken for a carryon . So My question is has anybody had any experience with PA . Can i put my d70 in a small cloth camera case and hang a couple lenses and flash on it and get onboard without being hasseled . any other novel solutions would be welcomed

I am wondering if you got your luggage limits mixed up. I read on their website it is two bags per person about 50 lbs per bag (they stated it in Kilos). They waive the small plane luggage overages if you are connecting international. Let me see if I can find a link for this info...

I thought this thread was going to be about an entanglement situation followed by a difficult decision.

no instead of small airplane i have a 3hour bus followed by 40 min boat ride

its getting to nadi on 747 that is the issue

They never enforce it! I never declare my carry on to the ticket counter! At the gate as long as it fits in the rack its a go! I have had 42lbs in one carry on! No problem! They want you there bad right now!

mjh you absolutly right and that has been the back up plan for fins and bcd if i could get away it i would just show up at the airport in full scuba gear lol. we only carry our regs and wetsuits as we are some what private people and dont like sharing certain items especially when it involves certain orrifices . i work in the health industry and even though i know that the risks are small or remote ( come to think of it i would likley be at greater risk for dcs ) i would rather not be exposed none the less .the second issue is that of maintnence .i know im splitting hairs but in my line of work best practice is followed, the same goes with diving. being a novice with just under 100 dives i still a little leary at times about dive oops and equipment . perhaps with time i will lighten up. im curious how many dives can you get in with straight tables im sure one day il expeince a computer malfunction.

I carried on a small backpack which weight 2x the "allowed" amount. Just don't look like
your bag weighs a ton, and nobody will check (probably).
