Sub scompare sott'acqua e muore nel lago a Toscolano Maderno - Giornale di Brescia
A morning dive that turned into a tragedy for three diving companions. In fact, one of the divers did not climb, swallowed up by the waters of the Garda. The alarm went off just before 9 am and the research started immediately, along the Gardesana overlooking the lake in the section between Toscolano Maderno and Gargnano, close to the villa that is known in the area as Casetta degli Spiriti.

From the main road, a small stairway leads off to the lake. Just the one used by the three divers - like many other diving enthusiasts - to dive into the water. The same time traveled by rescuers engaged in research - Fire Brigade, Garda Volunteers and Coast Guard, in addition to the Carabinieri -, which unfortunately gave tragic results.

The lifeless body of the diver was indeed found and recovery operations are now underway.

oh no; not again.:(

Do we have any insight on this from the community?

I know many people are more concerned about Cameron floating (hopefully) around the Gulf.

But I am curious on what they were diving with and what skills they possessed while making this dive along with the other Italian Lake fatality in the other thread.

So once Cameron is found we discuss what happened here in Lake Garda and Lake Isso.

The news article is dated december 2018 ...
The northern Italy’s lakes are cold dark deep and fed from alps glaciers.
Are also used because you can shore dive and get deep quickly.
Many people train in these lakes and many are foreigners that come here to establish “records”.
This is a good mix for those results.
If you are not diving within a commercial operation, you are free to buy you kit and splash in the water and do watever dive you like.
So, quite often, people do what they should not: exeed limits they do not known existed. I am not referring to this specific case but answering jared comment.

Cheers

Fabio
