Hi,

My husband and I along with 10 of our friends are going on a southern caribbean cruise with Princess cruises in November. We will be stopping in Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, Tortola and St. Thomas. We would consider ourselves to be vacation recreational divers with about 20 dives for me and 40 or so for my husband. We also have two friends that were just certified this summer.

We are only diving on two of the islands. St. Lucia for sure and either Tortola or Barbados. We are not really interested in doing any wreck diving.

Are their any suggestions on which of the two islands would be best? We are looking at getting a private charter so that we can be sure not to miss our ship.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Tortola would be the better choice IMHO.

BVI Scuba Diving: British Virgin Islands

Not a lot to do on Tortola for cruise ship visitors except to be dumped at a beach with a few 1000 other passengers. Much more to see & do in Barbados.

I've not dove Barbados before but can highly recommend Tortola. Try Dive Tortola right there in Roadtown. Excellent dive op.

I just came back from Barbados. Diving was okay - vis was off due to storms. Saw lots of hawkbeak and green turtles, rays, eels and loads of various fish. I dove with "the Dive Shop" at Pebbles Beach. Good outfit to use

Obviously I am biased, but if you do a cruise dive in the BVI they take you to the Wreck of the Rhone, which by any measure is a pretty good dive. I think British Diver magazine rated it as the top wreck dive in the Caribbean recently.

I did my AOW cert with Blue Water Divers in Tortola last summer. It was fantastic. Dive sites are just across the channel so you should have not trouble making it back in time.
