can anyone recommend a decent torch suitable fro wreck diving- not videoing or photographing just a decent one that i can see well - preferably self contained rechargeable type (rather than battery pack )i currently use a fenix 930 lumens and its pretty good fro up close work but inadequate for cavern or large spaces

are you in the US? What is your budget?

The "real" option is this
Cave Adventurers - Underwater Light Dude LD-35 - Marianna, Florida USA - Never Undersold!
It's the best light on the market, and is quite brilliant. Will last forever on the big canister, has multiple brightness settings controlled from the head, and has the sex base charging. The LD15 is a great budget option that really does penetrate, the conversion head is what I use for my primary cave diving light.

Unfortunately there is little in the middle cost wise between the high end backup lights and the UW Light Dudes that will give you a meaningful bump over the high end backup lights.

im in New Zealand and that price is a little out of my price range esp when I convert it to NZ dollar
hmm looks like a compromise coming

yeah, it all depends on what you want out of the light. There are cheaper options out there, but none that are better in terms of value. Value being a weight of price, performance, features, and quality. Nothing else out there is like it.

how would you rate the dive rite lx20

It's a really big backup light.... It uses the same emitters as the good backup lights and the only difference being it uses 4 18650's instead of 1. Keep in mind though that to charge it you have to remove the batteries from the light, then the housing, and charge individually. It's in a 4 slot charger, but still. It is a terrible value due to the cost for what it is. It's a nice light, but it's rather large and not bright enough to justify what they are charging.

The bigblue mentioned above is brighter and a better deal overall, though their 4500lumen claim is stretching it, but it is certainly brighter than the lx20
