Can't decide which island to head for (and once again a search in this forum for "Tonga" brings up no results:shakehead:)

Anyone out there been? Where did you stay? who did you dive with? We simply want comfy clean accommodation and great diving.
HELP!!!

Can't help you asI was only there in '91 and not for diving.
I really liked the place though.

Vavu' is nice, I stayed at the Mala Island resort Mala Island Resort a couple years ago, the snokelling off the resort is very good and the diving was enjoyable; healthy reefs and good fish life.

The island is a short boat ride (2 minutes) from the end of a road, you needed to co-ordinate the water taxi as there wasn't a phone readily available at the lands end. I would suggest packing a set of FRS radios and leave one at the reception to call for your water taxi.

The name of dive operation name escapes me, they are probably all the same.

Domestic flight are on Chathams Pacific Chathams Pacific - Chathams Home , the planes are 1960's vintage (Allison Convair 580 turboprop), but are maintained to New Zealand aeronautical standards. actually it was a very nice flight!!

Vava'u was wonderful. If you are there between the months of July and Nov you could have the opportunity to swim with humpback whales. There are a couple of interesting cave dives. I stayed at Adventure Backpackers which was very clean, had friendly staff, and a kitchen.
