Well, folks, I've been hanging around this board for several months now. I've posted a few times, but for the most part I've kept my mouth shut and my eyes and mind open. For what I have been able to learn I thank you all. Tomorrow starts my classroom work for my PADI OW course. This particular dive shop that I am working with has a very long history (over 30 years) for good and thorough classes. My hopes are that I will be able to pursue the sport all the way to my PADI DiveMaster cert and then possibly move on to IDEA and pursue some of their certifications. I know that will be years down the road, mainly since I'm not a person with lots of money to spare.

What I would love to hear from you folks are any thoughts that you would have a fresh new person getting ready to take their class know? I have the utmost confidence in my instructor (we have actually talked several times) but I also value many of the values and viewpoints of this board's members.

Thanks for your time.

Congratulations on your decision to do a little research and ask serious questions of your instructor before deciding on which course to take.

Take your time and make sure you are comfortable with the skills that are required of you. Don't let the instructor rush you. If you need more time, say something.

Enjoy, and good luck!

To be very honest, not only did she and I talk several times, I talked with several "graduated" students as well. I've even been to a of the club meetings (the one they sponsor) and attended and helped passout paperwork at 2 of the discover scuba sessions they have done so that I could help them and at the same time get a feel for how they did things as well as how everyone in their group interacted. Like I said before every feeling I have for them is of utmost confidence.

James,

An off-topic suggestion: If you leave your email address at the bottom of your posts, spam bots will pick it up and fill your email box with unwanted spam. If you want to leave it, change it to something like:

jshelly at divearkansas dot com

Thanks. I'll make that change.

Don't be shy about asking questions at any time (in class and on this Board), and when you're in the water, get in the habit of breathing in a calm, relaxed manner. Enjoy!

Most importantly...

Make sure to pick yourself up a BP\Wing, 7' hose, drysuit, and an argon bottle.

Oh, wait... wrong thread.

Um... most importantly... Have Fun! :)

You know it's just not a fun thread without at least a poke about something like that. Thanks and please keep the suggestions coming.

if your doing an intensive course heres some simple advice.
Stay fed, watered and get a good nights sleep otherwise by the end of the week you may be to tired to enjoy your dive.
