Tokyo plus, need suggestions for destination

:07: My husband will be in Tokyo on business for two months. I am going over to spend some time with him there and roughlythe first half of September he wil have time to travel in the area.

I'd like to go someplace within easy reach of Tokyo where I can dive and he might enjoy himself too. My husband doesn't do beaches or water. He rather enjoys wandering around cities, villages and town that have some interesting local culture and things to look at...but it absolutely must have Internet access. I was thinking Thailand somewhere. Never been except to Bangkok...someone suggested Okinawa (sounds like a boring military base to me but maybe I'm wrong) Guam has been mentioned but what would he do in Guam? Want someplace that is also charming on land as well as in the water.

Suggestions as to good diving spots in that part of the world that my hubby might enjoy too would be gratefully accepted.

Plenty to do from Tokyo - come over to the Zen Divers section at the "bottom" of the board.

I would give Okinawa a chance - not made it myself yet but it is not just a military base!

never thought of japan as a dive destination. the article and links made me think otherwise. wonder if i can wangle myself a couple of month of 'work assignment' in japan

i'll be in tsukuba late september. bummer the biz trip does not straddle a weekend. oh well.

when I came to Japan all my dive buddies back home said where will you dive - hello it's an Island!! Having said that none of my Japanese buddies believe anyone could possibly dive back home in the UK - strange old world!
