About to do my first dive in ginnie springs in about 2 weeks. I need to get a new mask so looking at various ones. My old one (about 15yrs old) was ok, but never really fit great and I would sometimes have to clear it out while diving. It was old, got dropped & cracked so going to get a new one

Gonna try a local dive shop and look at some one line. Any recommendations on certain brands that tend to fit better? Or is it all really depend on trying it on? Just curious

Go to your local dive shop, don't ever buy a mask on line. Don't worry about brand, just go and try on as many masks as you can and get the one that fits you the best. I needed a new mask this year, and the cheapest one in the shop was the one that fit me the best.

There isn't a correlation between cost/brand and fit. The one that fits your face best is the best mask, period. Always try in person for best results.

100% agree, but some masks are sold as being good for small, medium or large faces, so that should help you narrow it down.

Honestly, I've never found a mask yet that's been a perfect fit, or even really a good fit. I can try on a lot of masks in store and they seal nice, but as soon as a reg is in my mouth, and 7mm hood on my head, my goggles are going to leak somewhat no matter what I do, unless I just let the squeeze have it's way with my mask.

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect fit, but I'm not gonna keep buying $100 masks hoping for different results. I'll just try partners if they let me.

Magnificent man the truth and let me show you this then you can put your money somewhere better towards air

Wow which mask is this

Once you get the feel for the look and fit of these masks, many are either very similar or maybe exactly the same
The magnificent thing about buying on line, is you can try many for the same amount of cash, with the holy grail

the ability to buy half a dozen when you find the best fit

Wow this takes optical lenses from Tusa, Scubapro and others

Having tested many dozens and compared to shop masks I can attest to their quality, can you see name brands

Fifteen bucks for a mask and snorkel the same as in the shop ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Seriously masks are like the choice of over 100 cheeses at the supermarket where you only need a dozen
Imagine after half a dozen you are sick of trying them so get the best one, dive it, and learn how to use it

Then the supermarket can shrink to a more appropriate size and all that land can go to houses and parks

For People and Koalas for instance!

Then you haven't been told how to try one on. Take a regulator or snorkel WITH you to find a mask. Put mask on, put mouthpiece in, check fit for leaks. LDS clowns that just say "try them on and see what seals/fits" are exactly that, clowns. So many new divers end up having a bad experience because the LDS or instructor can't be bothered to clean a snorkel or mouthpiece.

I'd love to take my snorkel with me to try on masks, but the local shop doesn't have a wide selection. They have like 12 total masks, and 8 of those are pink and tiny for girls and kids. When I bought my first mask for OW cert, I tried on every mask they had, and picked the best one that fit, and yes I used a snorkel when trying them out. But the snorkel isn't anything like my reg + 7mm hood squishing my cheeks into a smile.

I've just come to understandment that some people have weird faces that won't seal on most masks.
