Hi,
This will be the first boat dive trips I have ever done, and I didn't even know you were supposed to tip till I read something about it somewhere, although it does make sense.

I will be going to Belize on May 24th on the Carnival Magic. I booked the dive through Carnival; the dive operator is Parkey's (I have heard they are very good) and they take us to the Turneffe Atoll. The dive is expensive, $145.00 - no equipment supplied (weights and air only).

The next day we will be at Cozumel and we are going to Nachi Cocum and I booked a 1 tank dive on the Palancar reef that leaves from Nachi Cocum (only $34.00).

So, I am curious what customary tips would be in both of these situations. I am sure all of you have much experience with this. Let me know.

Thanks.

I usually leave $!0/tank. I figure I'm on a $1800 cruise with a $145 dive trip, the crew deserves a few extra bucks. I think $5 is traditional, although from my point of view, the trip is probably going to cost me $3K, and I like to spread tit around a little.

You'll really like Hugh Parkey. It's a big boat, which you'll appreciate, since it's nearly 2 hours to the dive site (if I recall correctly), and there is plenty of staff so that your group probably won't have much more than 6 people.

flots.

I usually give $10 for a two tank dive to the DM and $7 for a one tank dive... I haven't dove in Belize but in Cozumel I would also tip the captain a little as they are in charge of a lot of your safety since you are drifting. I try not to be too cheap on tipping as a lot of these people depend on tips and aren't paid great, a couple bucks wouldn't hurt.. if you are dropping several thousand on a week vacation I'm sure we all could spare a couple more bucks.

We tip $5 or $10 per tank depending on service. If it was a longer day and/or they carried and set up my gear for me, plus pointed out some interested stuff on the dive, that would be a $10/tank tip :)

Also my husband dove with Hugh Parkey's while we were on the Carnival Dream last week and had a good time. Big board (20-30 divers) but they split up into groups of 5-6 to dive.

We dove with Scuba with Alison while in Cozumel and had a great time with her :)

Hi , We usually tip 5 us dollars per dive or equivalent wherever we are in the world. We also tip daily when using the same dive boat at a holiday destination as the crew can change daily.

We have done many dives from cruises and have always had a good time. Only 6 days and 2 hours until diving in the Red Sea - not that I'm counting!!!
