Tipping is a way of complimenting the crew!
Have a look at who your instructors and boat crew are. If they are rich daddy's boys on a vacation between school and university, then it will just go on beer (well earned on occasions) when it is a local with a family, then it will go on feeding and schooling kids that may not have many opportunities.
I think the well earned personal tip is far better and more meaningful than just slinging a couple of bucks in the tip jar at the end of the dive.
