What is considered an acceptable tip for a DM on a charter?? Should you tip more if there are two of them since they will have to split it?

On day boats, $10 usually, $20 if it was a specially good
day or I got some special service. And I make a point of
putting an 10 or 20, not two or four 5s in the jar, and doing
it pretty much right after the last dive.

On a liveaboard, 15% of the dive trip (not including air).

Agreed. But why the 10 or 20 and not several 5's? What's the difference?

With the 10s & 20s the DMs know that it came frome one particular person, and most of the time they watch the jar to make sure they know who to be nice to the next time they come back.

Just my guess ...

I guess I just hand the money directly to the divemaster as I thank them for the great time. They defineatly remember then. :)

I gave them a Christmas card after the night dive with $50(US) in it for each of them. They were really happy with that. This was in Jamaica though. I wouldn't know what to tip them in America.
