I have a strange whoosing noise now and again in my ear and I was thinking it may be Tinnitus, I am going to see the doctor soon to hopefully find out what it is. Whenever I tense my stomach muscles it seems as if there is air shooting out my right ear and making a noise like wind coming down a chimney.

Just wondering if Tinnitus is likely to stop me diving?

Thinking back to when I went to school for this, isn't tinnitus ringing of the ear? Maybe the term encompasses a few more symptoms than I remember.

What were you doing when you first noticed this?

i cant remember, it started about a year ago. i went to the doctor earlier but he noticed nothing so i thought another check might unearth something.

Well....If you weren't Scottish I'd almost think something was wrong with you.... LOL. :D (just kidding, of course)

I think you need to see an ENT about this. And get your blood pressure checked. IIRC a whooshing sound in your ears can be caused by high blood pressure too....

R..

High bloodpressure can cause it, and from what you describe, that might be it. Of couse, tinnitus can be idiopathic, as well. best to get checked by an ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor) and be sure. High blood pressure is no joke and can cause alot of other problems.

Tinnitus is ringing in the ears -- a sound kind of like a mosquito in your bedroom.

This could be any number of things, from an incompetent Eustachian tube to a vascular anomaly in the skull. It's worth getting checked.

Tinnitus would not preclude diving, as far as I can imagine.
