I am looking for advice on buying my first dive computer. I was looking at getting the Suunto D4i before the end of the year due to the free wireless transmitter. I wont be able to go on a dive trip until late spring, so Im wondering if it would be better to hold off on my purchase until then. My main concern is not being able to test the computer immediately and also having it sit in the box for a good part of the warranty period.
Do most of these computers work perfectly right out of the box or should I be worried about possibly getting a lemon? As far as I know, I wouldn't be able to test a majority of the features without diving or swimming, so I don't want to find out in 5-6 months that I got a defective product and can't return it.
Do most issues take place outside of the warranty period (it seems most products are designed to break right after the warranty ends)?
BTW, I dont think I would use the wireless transmitter until I get my own gear, but I could sell it for $250-300 on Ebay to help offset some of the cost of the computer.
