Thousand Islands Lost Fleet
Sponsored By : Thousand Islands Museum
The newspapers of the 1890s, wrote about pleasure seekers who skim over the placid bosom of the St. Lawrence in skiffs and sail boats. Over a hundred years later they have been replaced with modern pleasure seekers who skim over the placid waters of the Thousand Islands in their jet skis and power boats. Neither group realizing that below the tranquil surface lies, a Fleet of Lost Ships, casualties of war, conflict, natural disasters and human error.
Underwater, divers and maritime history buffs will hear fascinating details about the more than three dozen ships stranded or lost to natural disaster or human error in the Narrows of the Thousand Islands.
