IST Pro Ear 2000 ME-7 Mask

See above.

I'm teaching a Marine Science course to high school aged students this summer where scuba certification and diving in the Florida Keys will part of the course. One of the students (Mom actually) just informed me that he has tubes in his ears. Of course I thought that tubes in ears/diving was not a great mix. The kid's mother then spoke with her doctor and they are looking into the IST Pro Ear 2000 ME-7 mask that has air pockets over the ears which supposedly alleviates the issue with perforations and tubes.

I guess the question on my mind is whether or not any of you have ever heard of this kind of mask and whether or not it has decent results from those of you that have experience with it.

Thanks!

Know the mask, Yes
Use it in this case, guess not, there always will be some water entering, witch then will enter the tubes. And water in the inner ear is no fun during a dive.Kid better wait untill tubes are removed and holes have cured.

I had a student with tubes...we used the "Pro Ear". Worked like a charm. Since class he has made many dives with it...absolutely no problems.

As a buddy, he is very aware of any water intrusion and does ask to periodically look for water intrusion into the muffs that he may not notice

Thanks you guys, you are very quick on the reply button! I do appreciate that.

I'm also waiting to see when/if he is supposed to get his tubes out. From what I understand it is about a 6 week process for healing the holes?

Anyway, we will see how things go from here, but again, thanks for the quick replies.

A related question would be...how does he learn to remove his mask and clear his mask? Will the water in the ear muffs drain to the face mask?

You have to be creative...but it does work

Basically if the muffs come off abort dive...but the mask can still be removed and cleared...reg purge works really well to clear the mask

IF student/mom is insistent, AND Dr. has signed off (recent surgery) I would also suggest Doc's proplugs as a secondary measure to to keep water out.

You might also want to give the mother the DAN phone number and have her doctor talk to DAN for additional advice.

I completely agree. In fact, I directed her to DAN the day she mentioned this to me. She is talking to them very soon.
