As some of you may know, this week's Underwater Videographer Podcast, at Underwater Videographer, was my interview with Jim Decker at Backscatter : Underwater Camera, Underwater Video Housing, Underwater Photography, Waterproof Camera. I thought you might be interested in the backstory.
I like diving and I like videomaking and I like underwater videomaking. I knew Brian from his DV Show Podcast, so when he started this podcast, we discussed how I could help. We came up with The Beginner Minute where I would do a weekly one minute feature for those starting out in underwater video.
Also, I emailed to Brian that I wanted to do a series of interviews with housing manufacturers about their underwater housings to help our listeners make educated buying decisions. Brian liked this and said to keep the length to three or four minutes. As before, my focus was to be toward beginners, sort of a special extended The Beginners Minute.
When I emailed Brian about interviewing Mr. Decker with Backscatter, Brian emailed back suggesting to focus on the high end Gates and Light and Motion housing and to ask him about his TV involvement, specifically Mythbusters. Mr. Decker was an knowledge and pleasant interview. My goal was win-win, I hoped to educate our listeners to make informed buying decisions and I hoped that he would sell some housings. If I ever interview any of you, I would want a win-win situation, too.
The interview went well, too well. It was a sixteen minute interview and I did virtually no editing. I felt it was all too good to cut any down, let alone to three of four minutes. I emailed the mp3 file to Brian saying it was okay for him to make cuts, maybe I was just too close to it to be objective.
I went diving Friday and Saturday, so I was out of computer range and did not get back to the computer until this morning.
Wow, was I surprised that the interview was the show. It's teamwork, I figured Brian and Cliff might get too busy sometime and be pressed for time, so I am glad to help.
And, let me give some credit to you guys on this forum. Not only do I learn from doing, but I learn from reading your posts. It all works together for good. Teamwork.
