This is a good conservation article. The thread should be moved to the reef ecosystems forum, where all us eco-freaks can pick at it longer.

I hope that substantial media attention is brought to bear on this situation. The Galapagos are regarded internationally as a "shrine" to biodiversity and evolutionary theory. Ecuador really needs to crack down... again. Hopefully there's some americans being held hostage, so we can send in the Marines! A platoon would do the job quite nicely. There should be a permanent security presence at the Darwin station; the locals have almost made storming the place a habit. No way I'd work there.

Imagine for instance if the residents of the Florida Keys revolted against the Sanctuary restrictions they live under. It'd be another loony Conch Republic... many of us recall how THAT went, ha!
