I am told this is an urban ledgend.....I heard it for the first time today:

Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned-out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire.
The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask.
A postmortem test revealed that the man died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries. Dental records provided a positive identification.
Investigators then set about to determine how a fully clothed diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire.
It was revealed that on the day of the fire, the man went diving off the coast, some 20 miles from the forest.
The fire fighters, seeking to control the fire as quickly as
possible, had called in a fleet of helicopters with very large dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and emptied at the site of the forest fire.
You guessed it.
One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the Pacific, the
next, he was doing the breast stroke in a fire dip bucket 300 feet in the air.
Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

oh yeah, Snopes is great, one of my favorites

Snopes is a wonderfull tool to get family members to stop forwarding UL emails to you. After a couple of replies with the correct snopes link they tend to stop...

Snopes is one of my all-time favourite websites, for exactly the reason James mentioned.

Whenever I get one of these:
"Billionaire donating 10c to orphan for each time this email is forwarded...";
"Help find this missing child...";
"XYZ cellphone manufacturer is giving away free cellphones...";
or some new exciting virus that none of the antivirus software vendors are aware of...
Snopes is the first port of call. I will then forward the link and a short summary of the contents in case they don't want to or can't log on at that time.

I know that the sender usually has the best intentions in the world forwarding the email. But I also know that these emails consume bandwidth and time. Of course, due to the content and the fact they are usually crafted in a way that ensures maximum guilt if you don't forward it, the knee jerk reaction is usually to send it to every person in the Address Book. More bandwidth and time wasted.

If it's funny, or you know it is true - send it on!

In short - Snopes rocks. Incredible stories are to be found there.

Cheers,

Andrew

You mean that Nigerian Prince is NOT really going to give me 2.4 million dollars for allowing him to sneak his billions of dollars out of his country? Darn, I was really looking forward to quitting my job!

Snopes is GREAT for investigating things before spreading them.

Wristshot:

Wait a second, how did you hear about that plan I am involved in? I have been assured by the highest authority that I am the only official representative designated to shuttle in the princes money, and I paid quite a bit for that right!
