Me and my girlfriend will go to the Maldives for a boat trip at the end of this month...

I am nearly a Rescue Diver while she is has just started the OWD class...

All the "Written Parts" will be done here in Italy while the "Wet Parts" will be done in the Maldives...

Pls help me, I do not want to make mistakes that engaged people always do when they go underwater...

I will NOT help her assemble her gear...
I will help her moving around tank and weight belt (she has got a problem to one leg)...
I will NOT be with her when she will pratice her basic skills in shallow water...
I will NOT push her beyod her OWD limits...
I will always try to have fun with her above and under water...

Anything else ???

Ciao Erik Il Rosso

P.S. She does not know this, it a sort of a secret...
The instructor said that he will print her c-card before leaving and the day her course will be finished there will be a party on board and he will give the OWD c-card to her...
Sounds nice, isn't it ???

The most common mistake is not finishing up the dives before going on vacation. Do it at home, you'll enjoy your vacation more and she'll be more likely to dive at home and on vacation. Have fun!

i speak from 12 years of a wonderful relationship:

i think the best thing you can do for her is recognize that she has her own learning
style and pace and respect those. it's her diving experience, not yours.

what i mean is that it's not a couple learning to dive, it's YOU and HER learning to dive, and those are two separate entities. you can do it together, and it means a lot more,
but it's still two people learning to dive. people being different, they are going to learn differently.

i would say stay out of her learning experience unless explicitly asked by her. i know that's hard for us guys, but ... hey....

anyway, sounds like you have the right idea.

It's nice you want to do it right. :-) I like the idea of the suprise, too!

If she doesn't want help, don't offer it, but I for one very much appreciate some help lugging the gear. Especially if she has a physical limitation, I would think some help would be in order.

As for setting up the gear, yes she needs to learn to do it herself, but later, if she would appreciate some help, why not give it? I appreciate the men who double check my gear, and who do some of the heavier tasks for me.

Enjoy your dives!
