Last year I spent nearly three weeks in Tonga to swim with and photograph the humpback whales that migrate there every southern winter.
It really was an all-round incredible experience and being in the water with these huge "gentle giants" was simply amazing. We had lots of encounters ranging from the humpbacks mothers with their calves to the frenetic heat runs, with competitive groups, escorts and playful calves in between!
It was my first trip to Tonga and also my first time to swim with such large animals, which was all quite different from virtually everything I have done before - so a bot of a learning curve to say the least!
I have finally finished documenting it all on what I have (somewhat modestly... ) called the Complete Guide to the Humpback Whales of Tonga.
Seriously though... it took me ages to write it all up as I realized just how little I knew about these wonderful creatures so had to do lots of reading to piece it all together.
Please take a look - constructive feedback very welcome...
