I'll never forget the feeling I had when I took my first breath underwater. It was awesome, undescribeable really.I had always wanted to dive but didn't really have the funds. Then I got a better job and the first thing I did was take SCUBA lessons.I am so glad I did,I have the fever now.I didn't get to dive this year because I blew my knee out and had to have surgery. But 07 is definately going to be my diving year.

I had the same feeling but along with that i was drooling and giggling unstoppable ( it wasn't the same when i was taking my piloting classes).
I wish you a soon recovery and good dives.

Welcome to the club. Hope your knee gets better soon. I know what you mean about breathing underwater for the first time. I remember smiling sooooo big :D I had a hard time keeping the regulator in my mouth.

Sadly once you start diving you wont ever have funds again.

Sadly I that is true. I had my dive equipment last year and it got stolen. So now I'm having to buy it all over again.

Welcome Gulfdiver....Hope you recover successfully and get back to diving.

I know how you feel. The first time I breathed underwater, it felt like I had done it all my life.

I learned mouthbreathing as a kid snorkeling in the backyard swimming pool imitating Lloyd Bridges ("Sea Hunt"). My first experience breathing underwater was a Discover Scuba class in Cancun. It was in the pool, and I remember smiling so broadly it caused my mask to leak. Which, of course, led to the mask clearing exercise. That grin was only amplified in the afternoon when we went out on the reef. I still get the same thrill on every descent; those first couple of breaths are amazing.

The real kick for me came when I learned that you could breath underwater without a mask.

Hey you have to work to pay for scuba but atleast scuba makes work bearable, when I'm on the boar working for weeks and sometimes months at a time I sign on here and realize why I'm out here. And I think of all the wonderful toys, places and friends I can afford to have and see from diving.

LOL at String...so very, very, very true!
I remember my first breath u/w (which was only a couple months ago). The funny thing is, it was kind of difficult at first as I had to persuade my brain that this could actually be done. Initially, my brain would not allow my body to inhale once I was submerged, as if it wasn't convinced that it was the correct thing to do.
Anyway, hope your knee gets better, and look forward to reading your posts in future.
Dave.
