OK people, time for some owing up. Name some of the must-see movies that you still have not seen.

I'm not sure how "must-see" they are but two that spring to mind at the moment are "A Fish Called Wanda" and "Bladerunner". Still haven't seen either of those.

Actually, come to think of it, I have still not seen any of "The Godfather" movies and it seems to be a universal truth that they are "must-see" movies.

I still haven't seen the new Batman movie :depressed:

I was supposed to see it in Imax, but stuff came up and I never did. As soon as it comes on DVD, I'm allllll over it...even though it won't be quite the same as seeing it on the big screen.

By the way...to everyone else, if you haven't seen Boondock Saints...put it on your must see list (unless you don't like profanity and violence...if so then avoid this movie at all costs).

Citizen Kane, supposedly the greatest movie of all time...I've seen snippets, including the famous Rosebud ending, but could never force myself to watch the whole thing

The Color Purple, multiple awards, but nothing blows up in it so it has no appeal for me...

Birth of a Nation...a silent film "classic", although for the wrong reasons (I believe it portrayed slavery as a good thing!:shakehead:), Classic or not, I don't do silent fims

North by Northwest...I've seen most of Hitchcock's fims, but not this one, allegedly one of the best (how do you beat Psycho, though)

As for the Godfathers (I and II, skip III...George Hamilton? Give me a break), they are indeed must sees. The problem with waiting to see movies like The Godfather and The Matrix is that they are so parodied in pop culture over the years that they look stupid and dated when you see the original for the first time.

For example, Marlon Brando's portrayal of the don seems like a stupid caricature now, but it was groundbreaking and frightening at at the time.

Interesting observation and I think you're dead right.

Deefstes, I've seen A Fish Called Wanda and Bladerunner. If you like Jamie Lee Curtis you want to see A Fish Called Wanda. John Cleese is his usual funny self.

Bladerunner is an okay movie but I'd recommend reading the book it was based on (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep). Actually, anything from Philip K. Dick is worth reading. I read a lot of sci-fi from the eighties before I read Philip K. Dick. I then read his works and realized most sci-fi writers were influenced by his writing or out and out ripped him off.

I haven't seen any of The Godfather movies either. No plans to see them either.

Alcina, I actually own Memoirs of a Geisha and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. CTHD is a movie done in classic Chinese mythology. The whole story line reminds my wife and father-in-law of stories they heard when they lived in China (they are Chinese). Basically, CTHD is the Chinese version of a Greek Tragedy. You definitely want to see this.

Most the time the movies I want to see but don't tend to be the 'popular' comic book movies like Spiderman, Ironman, The Hulk, etc. Sooner or later my brother-in-law buys the DVD and I end up seeing them. Waiting for him to buy Ironman.

I still haven't seen "Deliverance"...am I the only one on the planet?
Ber :lilbunny:

Deefstes - I have not seen any of the Godfather movies :shocked2:.

Ber - You're not the only one on the planet but I'm in good company .

I've never seen Deliverance, either, or any of the Godfather movies.

I refuse to watch Titanic. Heck, I heard the theme song enough times when it was the hot movie that I'm certain that must be on hell's soundtrack by now. I kid you not; we would be in one store and that song would be playing. Ten minutes later, we'd be in a different store, and that song would start playing. I think they had it programmed to be played every other track for months.

Near... far...
Wherever you are,
You know that this song will play on,
And on
And on
And on
And on

Most of Woody Allen's movies are on the "don't bother" list. I always heard critics raving about how hilarious they were, and when I finally saw them, I wondered what drugs the critics had been on when they watched it. His humor just leaves me flat, no matter how many people tell me his movie is a "must see".

Brokeback Mountain; critics raved, but audiences apparently didn't find it as entertaining. When I found out the book it was based on was classified as "Literary Fiction", I decided to skip it. "Literary Fiction" to me is the euphemism critics and snooty writers use to label the boring stuff as "artsy". Not entertaining; just "artsy". Thanks, but I go to movies to be entertained, not impressed by "art".

An Inconvenient Truth, Bowling for Columbine, Farenheit 9/11, and pretty much any other movie that is nothing more than a 90 minute political ad. Thanks, but I get enough of that stuff in 30 and 60 second blasts from the television. I'm not dropping the price of a movie ticket to get subjected to it for 90 minutes or more.

Stretching back a few years (QUITE a few years), I never saw any of the Billy Jack movies, either.
