so i talked to everyone about splits and i got a lot of feed back...So first thanks to all of you....I went to the local dive shop today and could only come up with one solution...I bought the splits....now ill have paddles and splits...I could not make up my mind by what feedback i got so i figured out it might be nice to have them both...now i can go back and forth depending on what type of diving ill be doing or kick or curent ect............so im being told by all of you......Any ways i went with the Atomic Aquatics splits out of them all.I have found that people that have them really like them...Does anyone have any info or advise?

I think they basically suck. A fad at best that will follow the whale tails. Not comparing whale tails to worthless split fins. The whales were actually a good fin. Splits are nowhere near worth the $130 you have to pay for them. I wouldn't pay $10 for them. Wouldn't take a pair if you gave them to me. They aren't worth a squat in currents...real currents...not talking about what current a boat creates on a lake...If someone needs split fins to help prevent leg fatigue, then they need to do some squats and leg presses. Give me a plain old pair of stiff vented fins...Now there's a fin...No frills, just a great, stands the test of time fin.....

xsports, glad to see you made an "educated" decision. Some people won't make the effort to do the research, they take the 1st opinion they are given and go with it. By chance, did you see if anyone would loan you a set of splits to try out once or twice to see if you liked them in the water?

rawls, I'm not going to bash you, so please don't be offended by this. Splits are not for everyone, such a negative attitude toward such a product may turn students off quickly, though some products need the negative publicity. They are a wonderful product. As a military veteran, I've got knee and ankle issues. The only way to alleviate the stresses exerted on my right leg is to use the splits. PLUS, there is a difference in air consumption rates for some people: less effort = lower air consumption rate. There will always be those who simply can't kick 2x4 hard fins and need a little something extra/different. I had no trouble in the Caribbean with my Twin Jets in currents, surge, waves, etc. I actually sold my Mares Volo fins to get the TJs because they were more efficient and more comfortable for me.

In fact, I let a student try my Twin Jets out today just so he could see the difference. His comment: "Wow, what a difference. There's a lot less input needed to move around and much more comfortable. I can see why these would be great for someone with leg stress issues. I like them, but I'd need to dive them in the open water to know if they are for me." It couldn't have been said better. I love the "try before you buy" instructors, it was offered up to me when I went OW and I think that's why I let my students check out some of my gear.

Return them , borrow a set if you like them what size do you need i may be able to sell you my mistake.

I really have to agree with the "try before you buy" advice that Diverdown247 stated. If I went with the fins that my LDS said "everyone has because they are the best", I'd have bought a pair of Apollo Bio Fins and would have been miserable. In my quest for fins I tried as many different splits and paddles as I could, and literally did not find ONE pair of splits that I could have lived with. For me, splits are sloppy and floppy feeling, with a distinct lack of precision and control. However, that is only MY experience and I know plenty of folks who love their splits and wouldn't dive without them. And me? I wouldn't dive without my Jets. ;)

Isn't it great that there are choices to fit everyone?? :D

Not offended at all. Not all people share the opinion I do and I totally respect that. If they work for you or anyone else then that's all that matters. I appreciate your input...
