Ok, since I still have an undeveloped roll of film full of underwater pictures from the dive trip over two years ago to Cozumel, :11doh: I decided that I needed to join the ranks of the "digital" underwater photographer. Nothing beats instant gratification!

After reading many of the posts in this and other forums I've decided to get a Canon A620, 2 gig memory card, with a 1 gig back-up, the Canon WP-DC90 underwater housing. The housing is currently on order from Amazon.com for approximately $160 and the camera was purchased at Costco for $260. Throw in $100 for memory cards and batteries and I have what I hope to be an excellent underwater/above-water camera system for just over $500.

I will be practicing in my pool with the camera for the next couple of weekends just to familiarize myself with the controls, the feel and settings...(maybe I'll post a couple of pictures of my Polaris pool cleaner should they turn out :D )...so that I'll be ready for the trip to Roatan in June. Should I get any good underwater pic's I'll definately post them for review and additional advice.

Thanks again to all in the Underwater Photography forum for their advice, opinions and pictures...you've been a great help.

Sincerely,

Squashie

Good luck with your purchase and great diving! We will expect the pics in June. One word of caution. If you catch "the bug" like some of us have, make sure your wallet is under lock and key.

Congratulations!!!
Welcome to the Club :) :D.

Before you dive though, you have to name your camera and housing :14:.

You know for good luck and all that... ;)..

Well, I could name it...but, depending on how it works out...the TOS may prevent me from posting the name. Otherwise, the name will be Poseidon...for the god of the sea.

I reserve the right to change the name depending on its or my ability!:D

Thanks again,

Good luck with your purchase. You'll love it. I agree with scubabobuba, lock up your credit cards if the bug hits you. Very good advice :D

Great! Now it won't be long until you will be selling the kids to buy more camera gear...:D

Seriously, you won't regret it. Make sure you take care of your O-rings!

Congrats! That's the decision I made...well...I haven't bought my memory cards yet...I can't wait for mine to show up.

So...Diver Dennis...now that you mentioned it...how does one take care of the O-rings? I assume, to some degree, that the package may include some directions. But you know about assumptions... I'd rather ask those that know...

And I agree with Squashie...Thanks to all of you for your help. Reading the posts before and after my purchase has been really helpful. I can't wait to share pictures from the great Pacific Northwest.
