What sharks are around in January. I have never seen a shark in the water and would like to have the experience. I know leopard sharks are near phi phi and shark point. Are they any other types? I'm not after big tigers or anything I would just like to see them swiming close by. Even if they are only three feet long. If anyone knows where they are please let me know and I will book a trip there. I'm staying in Phuket in two weeks time by the way.

Yes, you should see leopard sharks oh Phi Phi. I did my dm there and saw them regularly. You'll also see blacktips as well but keep your eyes open or they'll be gone before you know it. They are quite skittish.

(see attached photo)..maybe you will be able to find these little fellers living in an oil drum on the bottom about 5 meters away (directly perpindicular to the centerline of the ship) from the starboard bow of the King Cruiser.

I am told they are bamboo sharks. I went and looked at them every dive a few months ago - they never seemed to move.

Yes, you should see leopard at Phi Phi. You may find leopard at Similan but I don't think it's a place to look for the shark. I would recommend you to go to Bida Rock. Leopard usually 6-feet long laying on the ground of the sea whereas blacktip is smaller and move quickly. If you're very lucky, pray for whaleshark. Good luck.

If your dives were during the day, they were sleeping. Bamboo sharks are noctural.
