I recently got a 10W Terkel HID dive light from a local diver. It was heavily used, but working well, and nice and cheap. Well, luck ran out the other day and the light crapped out. When I switch it on, the cord to the light head and the battery both begin to heat up--there must be a short somewhere.

I think the guy I bought it from said Salvo will service them. I'm checking with him, but if anyone else has an idea I'm game. The light will be worth repairing if it's not too expensive.

I'm not sure about repairing that light - but look into the bigblue HID light, it's about 50 dollars less than the LED version. You can look online at their whole line, bigbluedivelights.com they've got some really cool stuff - i dont think they have pricing online since they're a manufacturer, but i know it was under 200.00 at my shop. Ask your local dive shop to help you if you're interested, or call bigblue i'm sure they'll help too. I am not a big fan of HID - i think everything's going LED, but its a good deal.

Salvo does repair them ... or did last time I needed one repaired.

Cool. Didn't know that. I have one that I believe the ballast is shot.

I had the same thing happen to my 10w terkel..kept going off and on-ended up being a bad switch. On NW Greatfuldiver's suggestion, I contacted and sent it to Salvo. It was unrepairable as they could not accomadate another switch to make it work, but they offered me a screaming deal on a trade in for a new salvo light.. I was supruised and very pleased! Really a great company!
Good luck to you all!

Drew

Good to hear... I will contact them today about sending it in. Thanks!
