Hi,

It's been suggested that I consider doing a tech diving course in Australia before heading to Truk for a holiday. Can anyone recommend a decent dive centre that offers this? I'd be looking to do this on the east coast somewhere in the next couple of months, preferably somewhere warm. I notice from Google that there's a place in Port Douglas that runs courses, but is there anywhere in Cairns or Townsville?

Also looks like they require the deep diver speciality in order to do the basic Tec course. I am assuming that this isn't the same as the deep dive module I did as part of my AOW course?

Thanks for any advice!

Divedivedive in Brisbane offer technical dive courses in all configurations, sidemount, twins and rebreather.
You do not need to have deep divers specialty as a pre-requisite for their courses (TDI) as Advanced Nitrox certifies you to 45m and Extended Range is 55m.

Cheers

TDI Advanced Nitrox certifies you to max 40m (no deco); TDI Decompression Procedures (commonly done in conjunction with AN) certifies you to 45m.

IMO doing AN without DP is pretty pointless unless for some reason you need to split them, even then it will cost you more. The advantage of AN is accelerated decompression so if you're not doing deco dives...

To the OP, you should look at doing a twinset (doubles) course before (or as part of) AN/DP as well to help you get the most out of your Truk trip.
