Hi all,

I'm working my way towards the tec side of diving but am pretty sure I'm going to be running out of dive buddies as soon as I venture over. I'm about to do my tide side mount course and then my adv nitrox, but not sure if ill bother to do the deco course unless I can find some dive buddies who would be keen for me to dive with them.

Does anyone do tec dives in brissy or know anyone who does who might be interested?

Johnny

Johnny,

I know you are obviously a keen diver however before you take the jump to the next level it would be in your best interest to do some recreational diving first before doing Tech. Your profile shows <24 dives. Going tech is serious and things can go wrong very quickly, and unless you have significant experience and are very comfortable in the water you might find that brown sticky substance might hit the fan very quickly. Please don't take this personally, but I wouldn't go diving with anyone who was tech certified unless they had maybe 60 dives and had deep, night, nav as specialties. What it would mean for your buddy is that they would feel as they had to totally look after you. Now this might just be me as a fussy old #$%^, but I would feel very responsible for you and as far as I am concerned, tech diving requires a diver to look after themselves totally because when things go wrong, you both could be very busy sorting things.

As a new rec diver I would have no problems diving with you or most divers (unless they are total tools, and I have seen some of them). The risks are much less and getting to the surface is nearly always a simple option if there is trouble. With tech it may be the last thing you want or can do at the time. We all started somewhere and for those who have been diving for some time, its our moral obligation to help those starting off. My help for you is to say get some experience and bed down your training.

Be keen and enjoy your diving and get some experience and have fun, you will know when you are then ready to take the next step? What other qualifications do you have as your profile doesn't show anything so I can only assume Open Water only given <24 dives???? with nothing else.

Yeah dives are less than 24 and I neglected to mention that with tec diving Im not planning on undertaking the deco course until a. I know it'll be worth having eg having divers who I can keep my skills sharp with and b. experience comes. My initial plan is to do this tdi course get some basic knowledge of the fundamentals and teamwork concept of tec, then move into the adv nitrox, which I'm hoping will further these skills and keep me in the non deco diving. But at the same time allow me to become familiar with the additional equipment an skills that would to another rec diver be prob daunting. My question prob should have explained this, I wasn't sure if after the adv nitrox and ticking up further dives that it was worth moving into the deco course.

I should rephrase the topic away from tec. I'm chasing someone or people to dive with who wouldn't be intimidated by additional gear, nitrox mixes and who thinks like angling the lines of tec. More advanced diving but short of deco tec dives.

The group I dive with now aren't at all interested in tec and only dive air so you can see I'm pretty restricted.

Ok understand where you are coming from. Have you done Nitrox yet? will need to first, and will need deep before you go to deco I think. How is your buoyancy control, in tech it needs to be good and in particular with advanced Nx. You have to maintain depth and watch MOD. To do deep you will need AOW anyway.

Tech diving usually means boat diving as most shore/pier is shallow diving. I usually do tech overseas as I can get 14 or so good dives for reasonable pricing. Still dive tech in Bass Straight but colddddddddddddddd and I only use semi dry (need a dry suit next).

Where are you located Bris city?

Most of the tech diving I do is on air only or air and Nx deco so air is not a limit until 55m.

I have aow and nitrox. I have my tdi sidemount course in beginning of August as I bought a nomad and xt regs. Then it's a case of practising my trim and getting used to diving sidemount. After that and a few small upgrades eg. New fins etc. ill do my adv nitrox. I live in the bayside near Cleveland. Where abouts r u? Do u have a boat, like my other arrangements its a case of paying my share of fuel and refreshments.

Johnny,

Wish I were closer but I am in Melbourne. I do come up to Brisbane semi regular but when I dive have to use someone's boat. Yes I have a boat down here

I could get some boat access my father in law has a 6m cuddly cab, with a mate to drive so when your up let me know and ill tee something up.

Ok I will do.

Dive dive dive in Tingalpa. Or you could try diveXcite in Eagle Farm.

Yeah I know the boys at divedivedive but they don't really have the time to go on fun dives too say, but I'm sure someone will pop up sooner or later down there keen for a dive. Cheers
