I've only seen them twice. Once at Vesuvius on Saltspring and Thursday at Tanner Rock. Both times were the same time of year and both times they were mating. I'm assuming they come up from the deep to mate around March/April.Les:Do you find the tanner crabs seasonal at your site? Here in Vancouver(specifically Whytecliff Park) is the only place I have seen these crabs. They don't seem to be around for long. maybe a territory thing regarding food. not sure. let me know what you have noticed from your sites you visit.
